Tour Ref: L002
Degree of difficulty: Easy to medium.
Meal Code: (L)
Itinerary:

0800 hrs - Depart the Legend by car with an English speaking tour guide and head due north along the road to the Burma border and China beyond.

Turn off to the west and climb, along excellent roads, the steep ascent to Doi Toong, the Queen mothers winter palace (now open to visitors), and the stunning, well laid out winter gardens that the queen mother loved so much.

Take either the mountain route (if the road is open, via Doi Pa Mi with its panoramic views of the valley below, or the more direct return trip back downhill the way you came. Both take you to the Thai-Burma border village of Mae Sai, and its counterpart, Tachilek across the river on the Burmese side.

Take lunch at a local restaurant in Mae Sai.

Note* Clients who wish to visit the market in Tachilek, (no visa required but an entrance fee is paid), may request to do so at the expense of having the programme being conducted at a less leisurely pace that normal, omitting one of the afternoon elements if need be.

Travel west to the infamous Golden Triangle, arriving at Ban Sop Ruek where Thailand, Laos, and Burma meet.

Take a boat excursion to the 3 border meeting point on the river, then across to Koh Don Sao, a handicrafts market on an island on the Laos side.

Having browsed around the market, you return to the boat and back to the Thai side before visiting the fascinating Opium Museum.

The return trip to Chiang Rai and the Legend, takes a little over an hour and we travel via the old La Na Kingdom city of Chiang Saen with its bustling rive front markets where boats from China exchange agricultural produce with the Thai market.

We arrive back at the Legend in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the pace you dictated for the tour.
