Itinerary:
0800 hrs - Depart the hotel by car escorted by an English speaking tour guide an head up into the mountains near the Burma border to visit the ex-Kuomingtong settlement of Ban Mae Salong. The settlement is well known for its exotic market, tea plantations, and the Yunnanese dialect spoken by its inhabitants.
Continue to the south towards the Fang valley, stopping to visit the Akha village of Ban Lorcha, a demonstration project for hill tribe tourism, then on to a Padong (long necked Karen village) for a glimpse of these interesting people, a sub group of the Karen.
Descend into the Fang valley arriving at Ban Thaton for a buffet lunch in a riverside restaurant.
Depart Ban Thaton after lunch heading north along rural roads to a Black Lahu village, Ban Pha Tai, the boarding point for a 2hr. long tailed boat ride down the stunning Kok river, one of the major attractions of the north. You travel through scenic gorges of bamboo clad forest interspersed by remote village communities from which the children cry hello, and then run away in embarrassed by their bravery.
You arrive at the Karen village of Ban Ruam Mit, a well established elephant camp where you embark on a 1 hour elephant safari through the secondary jungle and agricultural lands surrounding the village. The return leg is invariably through the shallow waters of the Kok river.
After your safari, enjoy a walk through the extensive village handicraft market (closed on Sundays) before being met by your waiting driver.
Transfer by car back to the Legend some 30 minutes away.
