One Day Tour - Chiang Rai, Mae Salong & The Hilltribes

Meal Code (Lunch, Tea)

Early departure from your hotel for a short 20-minute flight to the northern city of Chiang Rai, arriving there at 0930 hrs. Board an air-conditioned mini bus escorted by an English- speaking tour guide for a short ‘whistle stop’ tour of Chiang Rai city itself, the second largest city in the north. The guide will point out and provide information on attractions as you go. Head north along the Mae Sai road turning off to commence the ascent of Doi Mae Salong. Make a roadside stop to browse around a Yao hill tribe market, then continue up to the crest of the range and the ex-Kuomingtong (Chinese renegade army of 1949) stronghold of Ban Mae Salong. Lunch in a local restaurant then browse the exotic market followed by a visit to the stunningly beautiful modern-style temple (Wat Santikhiri ) with its panoramic views of the valley below.

Note: The 3 km access road is extremely steep and the minibus can only ferry  3 or 4 people up to the temple at a time. Guests will therefore be split into two groups during the visit to Ban Mae Salong: group 1 - lunch, market, temple; and group 2 - temple, lunch, market.

Reboard the vehicle and descend into the Fang valley stopping at a classic Akha hilltribe village, then the Shan village of Ban Mae Mok Cham, where paa toong - sarong-like garments - are woven for sale by the village women. Continue to Maekok River Village Resort for an afternoon tea or coffee stop before continuing on by road to Chiang Mai.
