Day One:

Departing Chiang Mai by vehicle, you travel north to the Mae Tamman valley for an oxcart ride, followed by an elephant safari, and then a short bamboo float trip. Visit Chiang Dao caves and take lunch in a local restaurant.After lunch the drive takes you along rural back roads to a forest temple and on to a rare Paulong hill tribe village. Continue to Ban Thaton and check into the Maekok River Village Resort; Take dinner and then relax around the campfire (lit nightly if the weather is cool enough).

Day Two:

Depart the Resort for a visit to several ethnic minority villages including Shan, Akha, and Jin Haw. Explore the exotic market of Ban Mae Salong. Take lunch in a local restaurant then drive across mountain roads over Doi Toong & Doi Pa Mi that afford stunning views of the valley below. Stop at the Thai-Burma border town of Mae Sai, then visit the Golden Triangle. Afternoon tea is taken overlooking the infamous Maekong river, before the drive back to Chiang Rai.

Then:

  • Those on tour SA202B leave the tour here for either the airport or for their chosen hotel in Chiang Rai.

  • Those on tour SA202A travel back to Chiang Mai with a tea / coffee stop en route.
