Day One:

Depart Chiang Mai at
0800 hrs by vehicle and head north for a one hour elephant safari
in the Mae Taeng area. Take a short and very scenic drive up to
the tea estates, and if permitted, visit the tea factory. Return
to the main road and have lunch in a local restaurant in Chiang
Dao. Drive north for one hour to the forest temple of Wat Tum Tubtao,
where you enter a cave housing a 2000 year old reclining Buddha
image. Then, mount mountain bikes for an easy ride along sealed
rural back roads, through rich agricultural land, to a rare Paulong
hill tribe village. Reboard the vehicle at a local market and continue
by road to Ban Thaton, checking into Maekok River Village Resort
for an overnight stay. Enjoy dinner in the restaurant overlooking
the river, Take dinner and then relax around the campfire ( lit
nightly if the weather is cool enough).

Travel by vehicle to
Akha and Shan villages. Board a bamboo raft in the Shan village
of Mae Mok Cham for a 2- to 3-hour lazy rafting trip down river
to Ban Pha Tai. A picnic lunch is taken onboard. From Ban Pha Tai,
embark on a 1.5- to 2 hour walk through several hill tribe villages
before transferring by minibus via the Mae Chan pass to Chiang Rai.
Then;
- Those on tour programme SA 208A
travel to the airport for a flight (20 minutes) to Chiang Mai,
where on arrival you are transferred to your hotel.
- Those on programme SA 208B
end their tour on arrival in Chiang Rai city (any hotel)
- Those on tour SA 208C return
via the airport to the Dusit Island Resort for dinner and an overnight
stay, plus breakfast and an airport transfer the following morning.
