ACCOMODATION
AND FACILITIES
ACCOMMODATION
Students can be accommodated
in either:
- A two storied building
consisting of several barrack rooms divided by moveable wall partitions.
The building can accommodate up to 100 students and has 10 individual
European style bathrooms fitted with hot water showers.
- Pool side suites at
Maekok River Village Resort modified to take 10 beds per
suite. The pool side suites can accommodate up to 200 students.
(Note* The barrack
room environment is seen as an excellent tool for breaking down
the numerous social barriers children create for themselves. Breaking
down these barriers is an important step in encouraging them to
become 'team players').
FACILITIES
Field
studies areas
The topography, natural
geography, and demography of the area provide the facility with
what must undoubtably be the 'richest' area in the north in terms
of 'field studies' locations.
We can conduct all of
our studies and undertake all of our related outdoor activities,
within a 30 minute drive radius of the centre itself.
Instruction areas at the centre
- A 60-seat lecture
room is housed in the two storied sala on the organic farm.
- The Student Centre
restaurant seating 200 in coffee shop style bays facing onto a
raised dias, is used for large group meetings and small group
workshops.
- 10 individual salas
(seating 8-10) in the 'Spice Garden' restaurant are also available
for use by small groups in between meal periods.
Laboratory
We have a good basic
laboratory equipped with microscopes, a computer, various lab test
kits. There are ample work surfaces allowing several students to
undertake tasks at any one time.
Recreational areas
The students
have their own recreation area located on the resort's organic farm:
- The
200-seat restaurant/recreation room with a raised dias or stage
suitable for dances/shows etc.
- The
upstairs lecture room which converts to a games room.
- 2 table
tennis tables and 2 darts boards.
- Students have access
to the 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club' that is situated on the ground
and first level of the rock climbing and abseil tower. The area
is designed along the lines of an army 'bunker complex' complete
with campfire and 'beach volleyball' court.
- A library,
TV & games room is located in the students main accommodation
building.
- Students have full
access to the swimming pool, gymnasium, sauna and to the business
centre (to send and receive emails).
Meal Options & Dining areas
We place great emphasis
on the quality and amount of food provided to students attending
our programmes. We feel strongly that given the physical nature
of such outdoor programmes, standard school meals will not do. Hence,
our budget per meal/per student is close to double that of other
institutions offering student field studies programmes in Thailand.
Meal options:
Set Thai menus, set European menus, Thai/Western buffets, BBQ's.
Picnic boxes (Thai or Western) are provided on field study trips.
Breakfast is a Western/Asian buffet.
The student centre has
its own 200 seat restaurant / recreation area overlooking the organic
farm. The resort's 'Spice Garden' restaurant, and the Sala Tong
Tung pool side restaurant, both overlooking the river are also available
for use.
Sports facilities and sports competition in Chiang Mai
The Suan Bua Resort is
right next to the American Pacific International School (www.apacinter.com)
- the school's considerable combined facilities are available to
us. These include a swimming pool, and sports facilities for soccer,
tennis, badminton and volleyball and a new gymnasium. Furthermore,
we have access to their air-conditioned classrooms, a computer centre
networked for intra- and internet, library, science laboratories
and art facilities.
In addition, the full
facilities, including the Olympic sized swimming pool of the nearby
World Club Sports Centre and the Grace International School
are also available to us.
Several golf courses,
and the training services of suitably qualified golf professionals
are within easy reach of the resort.
Outdoor activities in Chiang Mai.
There are certain studies
and activities that we can undertake in Chiang Mai that we cannot
undertake at our Ban Thaton base and vice versa. Particular
to Chiang Mai are:
Golf clinics, football
clinics, tennis clinics with facilities and competition provided
by the International schools by special arrangement.
