TYPICAL
7 DAY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT PROGRAMME
Note* With most
projects, the itemised 'equipment or construction' cost, would have
been agreed between ourselves and the school well in advance. As
a pre-programme exercise, the students invariably write out a project
proposal / funding request, and set about raising donor funding
for the project.
Day 1. Sunday
Meal Code: (D)
Arrive at the airport
(Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai) or the railway station in Chiang Mai,
and transfer to the Maekok River Village Resort Student Field
Studies Centre in Ban Thaton.
Check into the accommodation
of your choice.
Take a Thai / Western
buffet dinner in the 'Spice Garden' restaurant overlooking the river.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club' before retiring
to bed.
Day 2. Monday
Meal Code: (B, L,
D)
Breakfast.
Attend a lecture on local
topography, hydrology and geography of the area.
Tea break.
Attend a project briefing
on: An overview of the CDP (Community Development Project) location,
the water sources, the surrounding geography, and the purpose and
benefits of the project.
Attend a meeting on the
organisation, team composition, and logistics of the project, work
groups and schedules, tools and equipment to be used, safety on
site.
Break for a buffet lunch.
Depart the resort for
a survey of the project site, the water sources, the surrounding
area and to determine the level of agricultural development.
Collect water samples
from wells/sources currently used by the village, and the dam/source
selected for this project.
Return to the resort
for a Thai / Western buffet style dinner.
Members of each team
to be split to attend either:
Testing of water samples
collected earlier conducted in the student centre laboratory.
A Project Skills 'hands
on' workshop: Use of tools & pipe laying procedures.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club'.
Retire to bed.
Day 3. Tuesday
Meal Code: (B, L,
D)
Breakfast.
Attend an organisational
briefing and recap, allocation of tools to each group, issue of
water and packed lunches.
Depart for the project
site and commence tasks as allocated, breaking for lunch at mid-day.
Return to the resort
for a buffet style Thai / Western dinner.
Post dinner debrief on
the day's activities / problems.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club'.
Retire to bed.
Day 4. Wednesday
Meal Code: (B, L,
D)
Breakfast.
Attend an organisational
briefing and recap. Allocation of tools to each group. Issue of
water and packed lunches.
Depart for the project
site and commence tasks as allocated, breaking for lunch at mid-day.
Return to the resort
for a buffet style Thai / Western dinner.
Post dinner debrief on
the day's activities / problems.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club'.
Retire to bed.
Day 5. Thursday

Breakfast.
Attend an organisational
briefing and recap. Allocation of tools to each group. Issue of
water and packed lunches.
Depart for the project
site and commence tasks as allocated, breaking for a picnic lunch
at mid-day.
Return to the resort
for a buffet style Thai / Western dinner.
Post dinner debrief on
the day's activities / problems.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club'.
Retire to bed.
Day 6. Friday
Meal Code: (B, L,
D)
Breakfast.
Attend an organisational
briefing and recap, allocation of tools to each group, issue of
water and packed lunches.
Depart for the project
site and commence tasks as allocated, breaking for a picnic lunch
at mid-day.
Opening of water pipe
/ storage tanks ceremony & group photography.
Return to the resort
for an initial debrief on the project.
Attend an end of project
BBQ dinner.
Relax around the campfire,
and enjoy the facilities of 'Bamboo Man Adventure Club'.
Retire to bed.
Day 7. Saturday
Meal Code: (B)
Breakfast.
Check out of the resort.
Note* Depending
on your flight/train departure time there may be an opportunity
to personally donate unwanted clothing / toys to the children of
the area's HIV/AIDS orphanage.
