THE
STAFF
Bryan Massingham
The
Director of Studies and a partner in the Maekok River Village Resort
project. He is currently vice-principal of Hong Kong Island School.
An Oxford graduate with a degree in geography, he studied at the
universities of London & Hong Kong and was head of geography
at Island School before taking up his present position.
Over the past 20 years
he has led student field trips to China, Nepal, India, Thailand,
Russia, Canada and Switzerland. He has been conducting environmental
studies trips to Chiang Mai for the past 16 years.
His geography textbooks
have been well received and are currently in use in over 70% of
Hong Kong's schools. Keen on physical fitness, Bryan is an accomplished
competitive rower.
Rose Massingham
Rose has a degree in
history and a keen interest in La Na Thai history, and the numerous
ethnic minority groups that are more populous in the Ban Thaton
area than they are anywhere else in Thailand.
She is currently acting
head of History at Shatin College Hong Kong.
Sripun Beary
As the
General Manager Maekok River Village Resort & Track of the Tiger
Tours, she handles the day to day running and upkeep of the Student
Field Studies Centre.
Khun Sripun has a degree
in Business Administration from Payap University, and a keen interest
in Buddhist studies and organic farming.
Shane K Beary
The Managing Director
of the Maekok River Village Resort project and Track of the Tiger
Tours. He also oversees the outdoor activities of the student centre
and the corporate development facility.
He is an Irish national
who grew up in southern Africa. He served in the then Rhodesia Army
for 7 years, first as a combat tracker for the RLI, then as a 'C'
Squadron SAS, and later as a clandestine operative. He is also and
was one of the founding members of the Selous Scouts Regiment.
Leaving the military
he spent some 8 years a deep saturation oil field diver in the north
sea before moving to Asia where he supervised oilfield diving contracts
on and offshore for several companies.
He established Track of the Tiger Tours in 1986, built Maekok River Lodge in 1990, and
more recently designed and built the Maekok River Village Resort.
He lives on site at the resort with his wife Sripun and their two
boys Seamus Padraig & Conor Eugene.
Stuart Blott and
Lindsey Pang
Assist in managing the
Student Centre. Both recently graduated from Oxford Brookes University,
with degrees in Business and Management and Business and Tourism
Management repectively.
Ekkaphan 'Otto' Hirancoop
Manages the 'Bamboo Man
Adventure Club'. He has a diploma in tourism from Williams Business
College Australia.
He is a qualified rock
climbing and abseil instructor, canoeing instructor, scuba diving
instructor and is a keen martial artist. He instructs on the above
as well as on survival techniques, paramedics and water sports.
His secondary role is
that of liason between the government, the village headmen and ourselves
on community development related projects.
The Management
is ably supported by the Heads of Department and 50 staff of the
Maekok River Village Resort.
Further support comes
from the full resources of Track of the Tiger Tours and a very experienced
compliment of registered tour guides, all of whom have been with
the company for 10 years or more.
