History of Tourism - Northern Thailand
Chiang
Mai City, northern Thailand, has long been a popular tourist destination.
Until recently however, access to the beautifully scenic and little-developed
provincial areas outside the city has been limited.
Tour options have been restricted to either very basic trekking
programmes for the backpacker market to areas within a 75-km radius
of Chiang Mai, or minibus-driven sightseeing tours to often contrived
roadside attractions, but this is rapidly
changing to meet market demand.
