Industry
Terms and Abbreviations
No.
of PAX
An
industry term for number of paying passengers.
F.I.T. & MICRO GROUPS
There are two categories of tour booking:
(1) F.I.T. bookings - an industry abbreviation meaning
‘Foreign Independent Traveller’. This category is normally
used for booking couples and individuals.
(2) Micro Group bookings - normally used when booking
small groups of 3 to 8 people.
SSS - Single Supplement Surcharge
A couple sharing a room are referred to as a ‘twin sharing’
booking for pricing purposes. (When calculating the price
per person, each guest sharing a room is charged for half
the price of the hotel room, or half the price of an elephant
ride, etc.). The Single Supplement Surcharge is the
amount charged to cover for single room occupancy or
single passenger elephant ride, etc.
Optional
Where an activity is listed as ‘optional’, this means
it is within the tour price but to be undertaken at the
guest’s discretion; e.g., canoeing.
Optional
at guest expense
Where an optional activity has to be paid for as an
extra by the guest it will be so stated in the text as being
‘optional at guest expense’.
All Inclusive
Accommodation and meals are inclusive in all of the
OLD TRADE ROUTE tour programmes. Wherever possible, guests
are given a meal voucher with a stated ‘face value’ to allow
them freedom of choice when selecting items from the menu.
Soft drinks, alcoholic drinks, etc., are not included, although
bottled drinking water is.
Private
& Joining Group basis tours
Although all of the Trade Route programmes can be purchased
on a ‘private’ basis, the 2-day & 1-night river barge
phase (where included) is on a ‘joining group’ basis unless
your particular party consists of a minimum of 6 people.
Single
passenger departures
Single passenger departures are accepted on a request
basis only and are provided subject to the availability
of guides, vehicles, etc.
Single
joining
An individual joining a pre-existingtour departure
is referred to as a ‘single joining‘ booking for pricing
purposes. (He or she pays the full price of the room and
the full price of the elephant ride, etc.)
Tour
group size
Road and river transport dictate that group size be
limited to 8 people. A booking for more than this number,
say 20 people, would be calculated as 3 micro groups.
Child
policy
Children under 12 years old, accompanied by an adult,
are charged at half price on Track of the Tiger tours.
Prefixes
& Suffixes
The prefix
‘SA’ indicates a Soft Adventure package
tour.
The prefix
‘EXC’ indicates an excursion tour.
The suffix
'A' indicates tours that end in Chiang Mai. E.g., SA301A.
The suffix
‘B’ after a tour programme reference number indicates
that this version of the programme allows clients to leave
the tour in Chiang Rai, just prior to the main group starting
the drive back to Chiang Mai.
Those on
tour SA410C are dropped off back at the Rimkok Resort
at around 1430 hrs. They have the afternoon at leisure
followed by a set dinner in the hotel restaurant.
They stay a second night in the Rimkok Resort and
after breakfast the following morning take the hotel courtesy
transfer bus out to the airport for their flight out.
Tour
package numbering
Example
SA 401 (4) = the number of days (4) is the numerical allocation
given to the particular tour; in this case our Soft Adventure
tour number 401 is for 4 days.
