Overview:
Recently an in-depth
epidemiological study was undertaken (completed July 2000) in the
district of Mae Ai, Chiang Mai Province of northern Thailand – to
determine specific endemic conditions in a multi-cultural rural
population. It has since been decided that the data collected requires
additional information to complete the study, in order that consequential
analyses determine priorities for necessary remedial projects.
Mae Ai District:
Mae Ai district has
7 sub districts (tambons) in which there are 81 Thai villages and
an equal inumber of ethnic minority villages.
Resources required:
Groups of 6 – 10 students
to undertake studies in the more easily accessed villages.
Groups of 4 – 6 adults
to undertake studies in the more remote villages.
Note* We can
accept larger groups of participants (schools/corporate etc.) who
able to spend a minimum of 3 days on the project.
Assignments:
- cartographic – plotting each
house/home in each village, plotting agricultural/industrial areas,
recording status of topographical features, – longtitude latitude
and altitude.
- Correlating climatic information
with cartographic.
- Recording household population.
- Evaluating village needs.
- Drafting proposals for specific
aid projects to be undertaken with community participation.
- Submitting a group report.
Outline Itinerary:
Day One.
Transfer in from either
Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai to Maekok River Village Resort. Check in
to your chosen style of accommodation. (Villa, Pool side suite,
or student centre dormitary). Early evening opening address, question
and answer session with Track of the Tiger management and a member
of the Mae Ai Epedemiological Research Foundation, followed by a
preliminary discussion on (a) group assignments, group composition
and resource allocation.
Welcome dinner before
retiring to bed.
Day Two:
Breakfast in the spice
garden restaurant overlooking the river.
Visit to the selected
work site(s).
Return to the Resort
for familiarisation with the equipment and procedures required for
carrying out the individual tasks required. (map reading, GPS use,
reporting etc.) Break for dinner then plan the schedule, prepare
and pack equipment and supplies.
Day Three.
Breakfast, then assuming
you are ready, depart on your expedition. You will be accompanied
by one of our staff, an English language speaking tour guide from
this area, who is there solely in the role of interpreter.
Continue with your
tasks as planned. Day Four. Continue with your tasks as planned.
Day Five. Continue with your tasks as planned. Day Six.
Continue with your tasks, scheduling you return to Maekok River Village Resort for the afternoon. Check into your accommodation
as chosen (Villa, Pool side suite, or student centre dormitary).
Attend an End of expedition
dinner.
Day Seven.
Breakfast, then
report submission and have a team photograph taken. End of Expedition.
Depart for either Chiang
Mai or Chiang Rai, or linger a day or two taking one or more of
the excursion tours from the resort before daparting.
Pre- and post programme options.
For those arriving
early on day one, or departing late on please advise us if you have
any tour requirements to be undertaken outside of the above programme.
You may wish to go shopping, play golf, visit the various temples
or just explore the old city areas on foot. We would quote for these
tours with pricing based on the size of your group.

Scheduled departures

Will be advised by newsletter, please ask to be added to our newsletter
mailing list. For scheduled departures a minimum of 16 pax are required
(unless otherwise specifiied).
Cancellation policy:
- You may book smaller groups on the understanding that if; (a)
You cancel the group less than 30 days prior to departure date you
accept pay a 50% cancellation fee. (b) If we cancel a scheduled
group departure we provide a full refund.

16 pax – Price quotation on request.
Ad hoc groups.
For ad hoc groups (schools,
clubs, associations, embassies, companies etc.) the various excursion
options can be modified to suit most requirements, and meeting/discussion/training
alternative leisure or periods inserted as and where required.
