SPECIAL FEATURES OF Maekok River Village Resort CHILDRENS PLAY CENTRE - Our well equipped and supervised play centre is open from 0800hrs to 1800hrs per day. A charge of Baht 100.- per child/per day is levied to cover costs of crayons, colouring books, videos etc. BABY SITTING SERVICE - Available from 1800hrs - 2300hrs nightly, at Baht 100.- per hour/ for the 1st child, and Baht 50.- per hour for each additional child. THE BAMBOO MAN ADVENTURE CLUB – An adventure club with its own clubhouse situated on the first and ground floors floor of the rock climbing wall tower. The club is for dedicated rock climbing/mountain biking/canoeing/hiking fans, and accepts members from 12 years old upward. The clubhouse has its own garden, beach volley ball/soccer pitch and campfire. CHUAY DUAY – A programme under the management of the Bamboo Man Adventure Club that was established to support the community service projects run by Track of the Tiger Tours & Maekok River Village Resort. The club is currently involved in the running of ‘3 month organic farming’ courses for the senior students at the local Aids/Hiv orphanage. It is also involved in a project that uses home built ‘hydraulic rams’ to use water pressure alone to pump water from low areas to villages at a higher level. Club members donate time, ideas, fund raising support, equipment or funds. MOUNTAIN BIKE TRACK - A 750 metre long custom designed mountain bike track complete with obstacles to suit varying skills levels, runs around the perimeter of the organic farm. Mountain bikes are available for hire, and you may bring your own bike if you wish. TRADITIONAL MASSAGE SCHOOL - Traditional massages ‘Nuat Phaen Boran’ are available every evening at Baht 200.- per hour. 2, 3 & 5 day ‘Introductory Courses’ are available for groups of up to 6 people. STUDENT FIELD STUDIES CENTRE - Since its opening some 18 months ago The Student Field Studies Centre has provided Environmental Studies, Community Service programmes for IB, Geography studies, Jungle craft & survival modules, and Soft Adventure Activities; (trekking, canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, orienteering, camping, swimming and sports) to some 500 children from several international schools. These include; Hong Kong Island School, H.K.C.I.S, H.K.F.I.S, International School Bangkok, N.I.S.T., Harrow International School, St Patrick School, Bishan Park School and Woodlands Secondary School amongst others.. The average cost per student per day all inclusive for ground services averages Baht 800 – 1’750.- per day per student, dependant on programme, accommodation choice, and meal plan chosen. CORPORATE DEVELOPMENT FACILITY - Programmes utilising our all in one assault course, our rock climbing & abseil wall, the flying fox and the team building park plus many other games and exercises been designed by professionals with strong military and corporate management backgrounds.These physical activities are then combined with a range of non physical leadership and teamwork development exercises and incorporated into programmes designed to meet the specific objectives of our clients. We also provide mini client companies with meeting rooms and other services/facilities to support their own training programmes. Programmes during the last quarter of 2000 have so far been run for; The ALE Group – Taiwan, Chiang Mai University and Agilent Technologies – Singapore. BASIC MEDITATION COURSES – One day introductory courses – preparatory reading materials are provided to participants the night before the practical course commences. COMMUNITY SERVICES PROJECTS – Under our Chuay Duay programme we are engaged in numerous community service projects with different hill tribe villages and with the local hospital and AIDS orphanage. When visiting you are encouraged to bring along old clothes/toys/books/cartoon videos etc. THE MAEKOK RIVER VILLAGE ORGANIC FARMING SCHOOL - Given the significant swing amongst foreigners and Thais towards avoiding chemically contaminated foodstuffs, coupled with our own health conscious approach to the subject we established an organic farm on 8 acres of land adjoining the resort. At present, some 50% of the vegetables used in our restaurants are supplied by the farm. By November those percentages will increase to 90% plus of the vegetables and 20% plus of the fruit.
KRUA MAEKOK THAI COOKING SCHOOL -The Krua Maekok Thai cooking school has already developed a good reputation. It was selected by Granada TV of England as the school of choice for a documentary on Thai cooking. Joe Sponzo, celebrity chef at the Lakeside Villa belonging to the superstar ‘Sting’ also selected the school to learn about northern Thai cooking. Courses range from half a day, to 6 days. Tours that include cooking classes are also available through Track of the Tiger Tours.
