Time
Thailand's time zone
is 7 hours ahead of GMT, thus 6 hours ahead of Mainland Europe and
12 hours ahead of New York.
Currency
The basic unit of Thai
currency is the Baht. Current exchange rates are approximately 43
/ US $ and 62 / £. Note denominations are 10, 20, 50, 10 500
and 1000. Larger notes can be more difficult to change in remote
rural areas. Travellers cheques in either US $ or £ are recommended
and can easily be exchanged at the airport or upon arrival in Chiang
Mai. ATM's are common in the towns in Thailand and provided you
have your Pin number are easily accessed. Exchange facilities are
not available at the Maekok River Resort so it is advisable to have
enough local currency changed at the airport upon arrival for the
first few days.
Electricity
Electric current in Thailand
is 220v / 50 cycle and most wall outlets are of the round two-pin
type. If you are planning on using a computer or battery charger
it is advisable to bring an adapter.
Staff
Gratuities
Tipping is normal and
enormously appreciated in this part of the world. However it is
important to have a slight understanding of how remuneration should
be made and particularly to make a distinction between the type
of person who is receiving it.
On the one hand there is incidental assistance received from staff
employed by third parties. Porters and the like would expect to
receive 10 or 20 baht per piece of luggage carried. Restaurant staff
would expect to receive any loose change or the bill to be rounded
up to the next multiple of 100. A 15 % tip would be deemed generous.
Taxi drivers and Tuk-Tuk drivers would not expect tips as the fare
is normally negotiated before climbing aboard.
On the other hand, there are the more permanent employees of North
Siam Roadrunners who might include mechanic (s), guide and driver,
who you will encounter every day whilst on the tour. This sort of
person would expect to be rewarded on a personal level based on
the number of days of the trip and depending on how helpful and
friendly a service they have provided during the course of the holiday.
Obviously this is absolutely at your discretion but suffice it to
say that tipping does provide an important supplement to their wages.
Responsibility
Travelling to foreign
countries requires a certain degree of vigilance in keeping track
of personal property and baggage. It is the individual tour participants
responsibility to keep track of their personal belongings. North
Siam Roadrunners will not accept responsibility for lost or stolen
valuables. Shoulder or waist pouches are an absolute necessity for
carrying passport and money and should be carried on your person
at all times.
Water
Cheap bottled drinking
water is readily available throughout Thailand and we strongly recommend
that tap water is avoided. Further advice upon this subject will
be delivered on the first day after your arrival.
Travel
Arrangements to Thaton
The domestic airfare
to Chiang Rai airport is not included in the price. A transfer will
be arranged to meet the first plane in the morning and is includerd
in the price. Other arrangements are at the participants expense.
Insurance
Motorcycles are insured
to the legal requirements under Thai Law. This provides for 3rd
party cover to persons. Participants are responsible for damage
to the motorcycles and will be billed accordingly.
Medical
Insurance
This is required and
should cover evacuation by air if needed in case of an accident
whilst motorcycling abroad on holiday. Sight of this will be required
in Thailand.
Bank
Transfer Costs
All prices are net and
should not be subject to deductions by the bank for transfer.
All terms and conditions remain the same as for the 12-day package
with the exception of the inclusion of the domestic airfare. On
Classic Excursions, this is not included in the price and
it is the responsibility of the participants to make their own travel
arrangements to and from the start / finish points.
Please note that
whilst every effort will be made to accommodate your request, places
on the excursion tours are limited and strictly subject to the organisers’
confirmation.
