The Maekok River
Village Resort is situated on the banks of the Kok river at
the half way between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. In the space
of a days drive you can easily visit the Golden Triangle
and the border market of Mae Sai, The Royal projects of Doi
Toong and Doi Angkhang, and thousands of little visited hill
tribe and rural Thai villages. From Lahu fisherman to Karen
mahout, from Thai farmer to Lisu hunter, the people are perhaps
the friendliest in the kingdom and the scenery is stunning.
If as oft claimed, Chiang Mai is the gateway to the north,
then this area is without doubt the garden.
We are working
with BUDGET car rental and are able to provide car hire with
pick up in Chiang Mai drop off in Chiang Rai or vice-versa.
Alternatively, we can arrange for rental with pick up and
drop off at Maekok River Village Resort. The latter option
includes a modest delivery and collection service fee.
We will also
provide excellent maps of the area as well as GPS units and
cellular radios on a daily hire basis.

of Wat Tum Tubtao. Cycle along rural back roads through rolling
agricultural landscapes, stopping for lunch at a suitable

Mai by vehicle at 0700hrs and travel via the Samoeng Loop
road to a remote elephant camp in the mountains outside Chiang
Mai and commence an elephant safari through the surrounding
jungle that includes visits to one or two waterfalls.
Visit the Queen Sirikit Botanical gardens to explore the wide
range of flora that represents much of that indigenous to
Thailand.
Take lunch in
a local roadside restaurant in the village of Chiang Dao.
Continue north along rural back roads to visit a rare Paulong
hill tribe village, and one of the few accessible Lahu Shaleh
hill tribe villages in the north.
Overnight at
Maekok River Village Resort, an adventure tour base on the
banks of the Kok river on the outskirts of the Thai -Burma

sightseeing transfer that takes a round about route through

who wish to avoid most of the well known tourist attractions.
Depart Chiang Rai by vehicle and travel to the Mae Sai area
turning off to Doi Pa Mi. Stop in a quaint Kuomingtong village
with cobbled streets as you follow the stunningly scenic mountain
route to Doi Toong and the Queen Mothers Royal Garden Project.
Stroll the grounds before lunch then travel over the mountain
to the ex-Kuomingtong stronghold of Ban Mae Salong for a brief
stop at the exotic market before descending to the valley
floor and Ban Thaton where you check into the Maekok River
Village Resort.
