Outline Itinerary:
Day One.
Arrive in Chiang Mai
by air or train and be transferred out to check into the Suan Bua
Resort, spend the afternoon at leisure and then attend a cocktail
party and dinner to meet others attending the Photographers Workshop.
Day Two.
After breakfast, attend
a series of two lectures/slide shows by locally prominent photographers
specialising in different disciplines, and in a wide range of subject
matter.
Lunch at the resort.
In the afternoon, join
either; Photo shoot 1: Handicrafts in the making, woodcarvers
at work – in the Sankampaeng and Ban Tawai areas of Chiang Mai.
Or Photo shoot 2: A fashion show of traditional Thai dress
in an old style teak built Thai resort and textile showroom.
Return to the resort.
In the evening, board
a minibus to travel to downtown Chiang Mai for a Photo shoot
3: A Khantoke dinner and dance show for the tourist market,
Or, Photo shoot 4: The night bazaar, and downtown Chiang
Mai. Both groups meet up for dinner at a traditional northern
Thai restaurant before returning to the resort.
Day Three.
Very early morning
(0400hrs) departure for your either (your choice) Photo shoot
5: The Wororot morning Fresh food market., or Photo
shoot 6: Temples & monks, at a temple little visited
by tourists.
Return to the resort,
for a late breakfast, and to spend the rest of the day at leisure
relaxing or enjoying the facilities of the resort.
Enjoy an a la carte
dinner at the resort.
Day Four.
Check out of the Suan
Bua Resort for a very early start (0500hrs) to join ether Photos
shoot 7: Elephants & tourism of the Pong Yang elephant camp
and environs. Or Photo shoot 8: The Queen Sirikit Royal
Botanical Gardens.
Continue north and
take lunch in a local roadside restaurant in Chiang Dao whilst en
route to Ban Thaton where you check into the Maekok River Village Resort late in the afternoon.
Enjoy an a la carte
dinner on the riverfront, followed by time around the campfire before
retiring to bed.
Day Five.
Day at leisure, relax
around the resort swimming and enjoying use the numerous facilities.
Or take part in Photo shoot 9: The Maekok River Village Resort resort, it’s organic farm, student field research facility
& adventure centre. Lunch at your leisure. Continue with
Photo shoot 9.
Attend an evening lecture
on the area and it’s photographic attractions. It is the region’s
most densely populated by a wide variety of hill tribe people in
northern Thailand.
Enjoy an a la carte
dinner on the riverfront, followed by time around the campfire before
retiring to bed.
Note* Photo
shoot 9 may be rescheduled to allow photo access to activities that
may be underway at the time; (Rice harvest, student field studies
programme, corporate team building programme etc.) being undertaken.
Day Six.
Early morning departure
for either; Photo shoot 10: The Shan village of Ban Mae Mokcham,
or Photo shoot 11: The children (700 of them) of the local orphanage
school.
Return to the resort
for lunch, then in the late afternoon join Photo shoot 12: The
rural Thai village of Ban Luang – a classic example of village
life set in the centre of the vast and fertile Fang valley. Return
to the resort.
Enjoy an a la carte
dinner on the riverfront, followed by time around the campfire before
retiring to bed.
Day Seven &
Day Eight.
After breakfast, a
late morning departure for either of two photo shoots. Both are
of 2 days duration. Photo shoot 13: a 2 day & 1 hike
along nature trails into the Doi Pahom Pok range. (Thailand’s 2nd
largest mountain and seldom visited by tourists). You overnight
in one of several forestry camps. One porter per person provided.
Photo opportunities abound. Or, attend Photo shoot 14: Ban
Wawee & it’s hill tribes. This fascinating mountainous area
is inhabited by the remnants of the Kuomingtong army and a wide
range of ethnic minority groups. It is famous for it’s tea plantation
and in years gone by was infamous for it’s use a staging point for
mule trains carrying contraband. Little visited by the outside world,
it presents excellent photo opportunities for both landscape and
portrait work. Overnight in a delightful Chinese style small resort
on the teas plantation. (all meals are included on both the above
shoots) and you return to Maekok River Village Resort in the late
evening of day 2.
A la carte dinner then
retire to bed.
Day Nine.
Morning at leisure
relaxing around the resort. Late afternoon, join Photo shoot
15: A Paulong hill tribe village. Continue on up to the Amari
Resort at the royal Agricultural project of Doi Angkhang.
Overnight at the resort
with an a la carte dinner in the resort restaurant.
Day Ten.
Early morning, set
off on your own for Photo shoot 16: Around the extensive
grounds of the Royal Project , rich in photo opportunity
both in terms of the flora and the colourfully dressed ethnic minority
groups working there. Break for lunch and a siesta, then in the
late afternoon continue the shoot until last light before boarding
the transport for your return down into the valley, arriving at
Maekok River Village Resort in time for a late dinner overlooking
the river.
Day Eleven.
After breakfast, check
out of Maekok River Village Resort and set off along the border
route via Mae Salong market for Photo shoot 17: Exotic
Market. Continue on to the Golden Triangle area for lunch. Travel
the river road through Chiang Saen to Chiang Khong . Late afternoon,
Photo shoot 18: The River front. Overnight and dinner
in a river front guest house.
Day Twelve.
Breakfast, followed
by a full day fast boat ride down river to Luang Phrabang , in Laos.
Check into one of the city hotels then enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.
Day Thirteen.
Photo shoot 19:
Early Morning Luang Phrabang, (temples, markets and classic architecture)
Luang Phrabang is the Chiang Mai 40 years ago. breakfast where you
find it, then a late afternoon trip to the outskirts of town for
Photo shoot 20: Rural Laos. Return to the hotel for dinner
and overnight.
Day Fourteen.
Breakfast, transfer
out to the airport for a flight to Bangkok and on to you home country.
