K Beary
He is an Irish national who grew up in southern Africa. He served in the then Rhodesia Army for seven years first as a combat tracker and jungle craft/survival instructor for the RLI, then 'C' Squadron SAS, and later as one of the founder members of the Selous Scouts Regiment. Leaving the military he spent 8 years as a deep saturation oil field diver in the north sea before moving to S.E.Asia where he managed construction related oilfield diving contracts on and offshore. He established Track of the Tiger Tours in 1986, built Maekok River Lodge in 1990, and more recently designed and built the Maekok River Village Resort. The day to day running and upkeep of the Student Field Studies Centre is handled by Mrs. Sripun Beary, in her capacity as General Manager of The MRV Project Co.Ltd, The Maekok River Village Resort & of Track of the Tiger Tours. Khun Sriphan- has a degree in Business Administration from Payap University; she has a keen interest in Buddhist studies and organic farming. Bryan Massingham - Is the Director of Studies, and a partner in the Maekok River Village Resort project. He is scheduled to take on the additional role of General Manager of Maekok River Village Resort in October 2002. He is former vice-principal of Hong Kong Island School (HKIS). An Oxford graduate with a degree in geography, he studied at the universities of London & Hong Kong and was head of geography at HKIS before taking up his present position. Over the past 20 years he has led student field trips to China, Nepal, India, Thailand, Russia, Canada and Switzerland. He has been conducting environmental study trips to Chiang Mai for the past 16 years. His geography textbooks have been well received and are currently in use in over 70% of Hong Kong's schools. Keen on physical fitness, Bryan is an accomplished competitive rower. Is the Corporate Development Manager for Track of the Tiger Tours and Senior Outdoor Activities Instructor for the Maekok River Village Resort - (MRVR) Outdoor Training Centre. Originally from the Netherlands, he has spent the last 4 years involved in outdoor education and training at a professional level and over 10 years as amateur 'winter survival' organizer / instructor. He holds a BA in Social and Cultural Education. During his study he specialized in Tourism and Human behavior. The key element in this study was to designing 'animated' programs, with an educational bias. As an Outdoor Activities Instructor, he focused his study on group behavior during outdoor activities. His final thesis was a study on how to provide suitable team building and team training programs for different target groups. He spent a number of years working with Akkermans Outdoor Centre in the Netherlands, and has experience with both education and corporate groups. He holds a wide variety of qualifications, from the Netherlands and the USA including: Rock Climbing, Canoeing, High Rope Course Management, Kayaking and Mountain Biking. He is a qualified 'Advanced First Aid practitioner' certified by the N.O.L.S. Wilderness Medicine Institute, as well a qualified CPR & AED by the American Heart Association. Assistant facilitators are
drawn from our tour company guide force, and/or from the local university
tourism departments, with who we have special arrangements. Rose Massingham - Has a degree in history and has a keen interest in La Na Thai history and that of the numerous ethnic minority groups that are more populous in the Ban Thaton area than they are anywhere else in Thailand. She is former acting head of History at Shatin College Hong Kong. We currently have 2 University graduates from the UK with expertise in Geography, Geology and Outdoor studies, who compliment our staff team. The Management is ably supported by the Heads of Department and 50 staff of the Maekok River Village Resort. Further support comes from the full resources of Track of the Tiger Tours and a very experienced complement of registered tour guides, the core of whom have been with the company for 10 years or more. Assistant Facilitators Assistant facilitators are drawn from our tour company guide force, and/or from the local university tourism departments, with who we have special arrangements. high ropes elements we only use CE rated equipment (the world wide accepted
industry standard). +All waterborne
activities require students to wear buoyancy aids. All our buoyancy aids
provide 7.25 Kg buoyancy (above minimum requirements). First Aid We have a modern
local hospital, 8 Km from the resort which has an ambulance. We can also
provide transport to the hospital. Shane Beary, Bryan Massingham and Reinier Jensen are all qualified 'Advanced First Aid practitioner' certified by the N.O.L.S. Wilderness Medicine Institute, as well being cerified on CPR & AED by the American Heart Association. Malaria This is not a high risk malarial area, and none of our staff here take anti malarial drugs. We do however recommend you use insect repellents (DEET based), and follow your doctor's advice in this matter.
