Outline Itinerary:
Day One:
Arrive in Chiang Mai
by air or train and be transferred out to check into the Suan Bua
Resort, spend the afternoon at leisure and then attend a cocktail
party and dinner to meet others attending the workshop.
Day Two.
Breakfast.
Lectures, slide shows
by local experts on woodcarving and furniture making. Lectures cover
the history, the raw materials and their current day use.
Lunch in the resort.
Lectures by local expatriate
experts of exporting wooden objects, furniture from Thailand, and
on importing the same into various European countries, and on the
suitability of taking woods indigenous to this region, to other
regions.
Day Three.
Breakfast.
Split into two groups
to visit workshops, sales outlets building and selling wood carvings
and wooden furniture respectively. Lunch at a local restaurant.
Visit various suppliers of new and 2nd hand wood, and
visit the workshops in which you will be working.
Day Four to Day
Twelve.
Breakfast.
Spend the morning selecting
your raw materials, take lunch in a local restaurant then start
work on the carving(s) or furniture(s) items you have elected to
make. There would be a different scale of charges for days working,
and days off at leisure.
Work related short
(1-3 day) study tours to the provincial areas, Burma, Laos and other
Mekong region countries will be offered as options, to be taken
during the 14 day programme.
Day Thirteen.
Breakfast.
Arrange packing shipment
of your items back to your own country.
Evening dinner and
farewell party in Chiang Mai.
Day Fourteen.
Breakfast.
Transfer to airport/railway
station for flight or train out.

are to bring their own hand tools. Bench tools are provided.
