Nature Trails and Treks

Introduction

The Pang Soong Nature Trails are a SKAL Ecotourism 2006 award winning product, set in a stunning high altitude (1000 m.a.s.l.) community forest.

They trails are part of a pilot project joint venture between Track of the Tiger T.R.D. and the village community of Ban Mae Lai.

Built primarily by donor funding and hands on volunteer labour alongside that of the villagers, they provide the village with revenue from entrance fees, and community forest guide day rates. The funds provide a social safety net for the village - that would otherwise not exist.

The Pang Soong Nature Trails are located 1 hour East of Chiang Mai and provide a series of unique trekking options that are exclusively available to Track of the Tiger, or through agents approved by Track of the Tiger. No other tour agency has direct access to these trails, which have been established by Track of the Tiger in the Ban Mae Lai community forest and are operated under a “private sector tourism - community based ecotourism” model (PST- CBET), in partnership with the local community.

The surrounding area, at 1,000 metres above sea level, is stunning and provides the opportunity for guests to experience an exciting natural jungle environment.

So not only do guests get to enjoy a series of world class treks abundant in memorable natural features, they get to contribute to the local community in a very tangible manner.

Please note that for all trekking options, we can vary the amount of “historical and cultural” information provided by the guide to suit your needs and interests.

Track of the Tiger recognizes that the success of our business depends on the welfare of the people, communities and environment around us. It is for that reason that we take extra effort to ensure that benefits from our programmes at Pang Soong are distributed to those in the local community that make them possible. Each programme varies but all benefit the local economy and contribute to protecting the environment. The guides, drivers and villagers benefit from your presence in very tangible ways. Most notably you’ll see that the village receives a trail entrance fee that comes from the tour programme fee paid by every visitor. We encourage our guests to make donations to the Voluntourists Without Border Initiative Development Fund for the training of guides, villagers and the development of more community-based tourism/forest conservation programs.
